Khajuraho
The temples of Khajuraho in Madhya Pradesh are the major
tourist attraction in India after Taj Mahal. The rulers of the
Chandela dynasty between 950 and 1050 AD built them in
Indo-Aryan Architecture. The stone sculptures in temples show
the many aspects of Indian life 1000 years ago – gods and
goddesses, warriors and musicians, real and mythological
animals. However, two elements appear repeatedly and in detail
than anything else – women and sex. Stone figures of apsaras
(celestial maidens) appear on every temple. All these erotic
figures show the positions and possibilities of Kama Sutra.
Temples of Khajuraho are divided into three groups: Western
Group of Temples, Eastern Group of Temples, Southern Group of
Temples.
