Private car round trip: Delhi - Agra - Jaipur – Jodhpur – Udaipur – Delhi
1. Day: Arrival in Delhi
On arrival at the airport our representative will receive you and bring to hotel for the overnight stay. Delhi, on the one hand, is so modern, and on the other side so ancient. Delhi of today is a cosmopolitan, modern and experience-oriented. With its art festivals and theatrical performances, concerts for the musically interested and a kitchen that leaves nothing to be desired, Delhi is a place that has something to offer everybody.
2. Day: Explore! Delhi
After breakfast we go for a full day tour of Old and New Delhi. In the Old Town visit the Red Fort, built by the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan. Then, the Jama Masjid - one of the largest mosques in India, and continue to Raj Ghat, the memorial of Mahatma Gandhi. In addition, enjoy a walk through Chandni Chowk, the bustling silver street of Delhi. In the afternoon a visit to the Qutab Minar stands on the program, the highest stone tower in India. Afterwards visit of Humayun's Tomb, built in the Indo-Persian style, and thus the forerunner of the Taj Mahal in Agra, and the India Gate, the war Arc de Triomphe. You will also drive past the house of the president and the parliament building, government buildings and at Connaught Place, the heart of New Delhi with a busy shopping center. Overnight at hotel.
3. Day: From Delhi to Agra
The 200 km drive to Agra offer 4 interseting hours through beautiful landscapes and towns. In Agra, we find an impressive fortress, the building, for which alone lot of people travel to India: the Taj Mahal. In the morning you visit the white marble mausoleum, built around the middle of the 17th century by mughal emperor Shah Jehan for his deceased wife Mumtaz Mahal. It stands on the banks of the Yamuna river, once a monument of love, it is now an attraction for millions of tourists from around the world. The Taj Mahal is built entirely of white marble and its walls are decorated with superb inlay work of stones.
It is said, that for this delicate work various kinds of precious and semiprecious stones were used. Peers from Persia, Turkey, France and Italy, as well as the 20 000 workers worked 17 years in this building before it was finished in 1652. The marble came from Makrana nearby Jaipur and precious stones like onyx, amethyst, malachite, lapis lazuli, turquoise, jade, crystal and pearl were brought from Persia, Russia, Afghanistan, Tibet, China and the Indian Ocean.
Around the splendid monument is a four-fold garden, separated by several watercourses, completely in the Persian style. After lunch we take a city tour of Agra. Visit the sandstone fortress of Agra Fort, which rises like a crescent on the banks of the Yamuna River, surrounded by a 20 meter high wall, with a 12 meter wide moat between them. Three consecutive mughal emprors - Akbar, Jehangir and Shah Jehan – went towards to build this massive structure, which contributes both Hindu and Muslim architectural traits. Late evening return to hotel for overnight stay.
4. Day: From Agra to Jaipur
This morning it goes over the old mughal capital city Fatehpur Sikri to Jaipur, 38 km from Agra - also known as the abandoned mughal city. This capital city of mughal emperor Akbar in the 16th Century is a complex of forts, palaces and mosques of sandstone. Because of the water scarcity the city was abandoned, after 13 years of stay. The tomb of Sheikh Salim Chisti, Akbar's spiritual adviser, is made of white marble and is now a Muslim shrine. Later, it is 4 hours journey to Jaipur. After arrival transfer to hotel.
The capital of the State of Rajasthan is widely known as the "Pink City" because the buildings in the old town with its city walls are built of pink sandstone. Jaipur owes its name, its foundation and its thoughtful planning to the famous warrior and astronomer Maharaja Jai Singh II (1699-1744). He planned this city with its walls and six rectangular blocks according to urban planning principles, such as those found in ancient Hindu treatise on architecture. In 1728, he built the remarkable observatory – which is still one of Jaipur's main attractions. It pays to stroll through the bazaars or to have a rickshaw ride. Jaipur is known for its beautiful carpets, enameled ornaments, precious and semiprecious stones, brass ornaments and many other crafts.
5 Day: Explore! Jaipur
This morning it goes to 11 km outside the town Amber fort, which, until 1728, was the old capital of the state. Visit also the temple of Kali, the Hall of Victory or Jai Mahal and palace of mirrors. Treat yourself to the unique experience on elephant back to ride up to the top of the hill, on which the fortress located. Take time also to make purchases on and off the busy streets of the Pink City souvenirs shops. In the afternoon a visit to the Observatory is on the program, the Palace of Winds, the City Palace museum. In the museum, you will find among other an interesting textile section with clothes and costumes of the former Maharaja of Jaipur and maharanis, excellent weapon section and art gallery. Return to Lodging.
6. Day: From Jaipur to Jodhpur
This morning drive to Jodhpur - known for its magnificent forts, majestic palaces and gallant building. In the evening you can dine in the Umaid Bhawan Palace, if you would like.
Late afternoon visit the Mehrangarh Fort, one of the most majestic forts of Rajasthan, with a splendid view over the city. Approx. located 125 meters high, the Mehrangarh fort stretches in an area of 5 km ² in the heart of the city. The fort has seven gates. The best known are Jayapol, built in 1806 by Maharaja Man Sing, Fatehpol or triumphal arch, erected by Maharaja Ajit Singh, and Loha pol or iron gate. The 15 handprints, the sati-marks of Maharaja Man Singh's widows who threw themselves into the fire of the burning of the corpse of their husband in 1843, can be seen beside the Lohapol. On the up most terrace wall you can see cannons set up in strategic positions. Within the fortress, a series of courtyards and palaces greet the visitor. In the apartments in the palace building is a magnificent collection of jewels of the Indian kings. Overnight at hotel.
7. Day: From Jodhpur to Udaipur
This morning, the journey continues through the valleys of the peaceful, remote Aravalli Range to Ranakpur, to visit one of the most important Jain tempel of India. This marble complex is noted for its 29 halls, supported by 1444 pillars, each of which is decorated with hundreds of carved figures, of which none of the other is alike. Then it goes south, to Udaipur, the "city of sunrise". Immediately upon arrival we check into the hotel. Thereafter, the remainder of the day free to enjoy the view from the hotel and admire the beauty of the city. You can wander alone through the narrow streets of the city, right up to the Lake Pichola.
In the evening you can go back to the hotel, or in a local restaurant in town for dinner. Overnight at hotel.
9 Day: In Udaipur
Today's journey leads to the City palace of Udaipur, whose most part is now converted into a museum. Also visit the Jagdish Temple, the largest and most-revered temple in Udaipur, and Sahelion-Ki-Bari, consisting of a basin decorated with ornaments, with intricately carved figures of black and white marble. Also visit the City Palace of maharanis, an impressive building made of granite and marble. Later you can enjoy a two hour boat ride on the Pichola Lake and enjoy the view at its banks, people washing and bathing. Also the view of city from the midst of the lake is magnificent.
10 Day: Udaipur to Delhi by flight
Morning transfer to Airport for flight to Delhi. After arrival transfer to hotel. Rest of the time at leisure. Evening transfer to international airport. |
